Very very educational place for children to know about soil erosion. Fun for children to climb up
Beautiful, beautiful place to visit during winters. During off season, this place is calm and peaceful. You can have a little trekking experience climbing the canyon, or you can just sit and enjoy the serenity from the watchtower. There's a picnic spot available for booking as well. And if you wish to have an enjoyable riding or driving experience, this place is a must-visit - the roads surrounded by greenery is a rider's dream ride.
Well, not only USA but our West Bengal also have Grand Canyon in West Midnapore district. I would suggest everyone to go there physically and enjoy the architecture of nature because it is far more beautiful than picture. Loved it! 5star from me.
To start with, I'd like to mention to all the viewers who are yet to go there that, it's the canyon of Bengal or better put as a canyon of India instead comparing it with the Grand Canyon. The overall place ia extremely attractive and bes time to visit there is during the winters. Try to avoid summers as the Sun stays on top of your head for a long time. Better carry an umbrella. I presume the place will look equally great during the evening or night in the moonlight.
If you go by train - Take 'Rupashi Bangla' from Santragachi Railway station and Garbeta is the station to halt and from there you can take a toto. It will take 15 mins, can book the toto for the whole day at a Max price of 600. There are few temples and forests which you can travel for throughout the day.
On the top, you'll find different food stalls and loo facility as well.
Fooding - Try 'Bhuri Bhoj' with multi cuisine option.Good food given the place you're travelling to.
On the coming days, there will be resorts as we found some construction going on so travellers can enjoy more there. Cheers! 😎
➡️Note: 1. Bonus place to visit is the backside of the Gangani equally beautiful with landscape and river view from ground.
2. Last train towards Howrah is at 5:30 pm from Garbeta.🚂
A naturally formed landscape which actually resembles to the Grand Canion of Arizona, USA. This place is a natural masterpiece and a great place of interest for the photographers. Especially during the sunset the place looks stunning. Also, this place is now being taken care well and also is a popular picnic spot now. Hundreds of tourists visit this place through out the year. Overall, a great place to spend a few hours or a day if you have time.
the outskirts of the Garhbeta town in West Medinipur district of West Bengal, lies a beautiful anomaly of nature. The plain landscape that marks the area of West Bengal is disrupted here by tall gorges formed over thousands of years by the Silabati River. The wide red soil gorge is locally called 'Gongoni Danga' or 'Gongoni Khola'. Formed after a long period of natural soil erosion and river movement, the Gangani Gorge is a beautiful and unique marvel that is frequented by locals and tourists alike.
Places to see around Gangani
Sarbamangala Mandir: The Sarbamangala Mandir is a 16th century temple built by the Bagri king, Nripati Singha. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Durga, whose idol here is carved out of basalt stone. The complex is also a fine example of unique Oriya architecture.
Raikota Fort: Built somewhere between 1555-1610 AD by the Chauhan Rajas of Bagri, the Raikota Fort is remnant of the glorious Oriya architecture. Though all that remains now are ruins, but it still makes for a great spot to watch the sun go down.
Bagri's Krishnarai Jiu Temple: The areas around Gangani are primarily known for being home to ancient temples. Bagri's Krishnarai Jiu is one of such temples that holds great spiritual and traditional value for locals. Made out of black basalt stone, the temple was built by Rajyadhar Roy, a minister of the Bagri king, Gajapati Singha.
Built naturally of red rocky land Gangani is a good spot for nature and geography lovers. It's ideal for short treks or picnics during winters. If visiting in summer go at dusk or dawn for a spectacular view. Has paid parking, food and washrooms facilities however would not recommend the site for elderly or wheelchair bound tourists. Only request to tourists, do not litter and travel responsibly.
Naturally built Canyon in Bengal, place locally known as Gangani. Beautiful place and recently built government resort is nice. This is a picnic spot for local people. People made it a place of litter as all who come to visit left packets, cigarette butts. People should take care of this as it's harm to environment as well as the heritage spot.
